ROCKINGHAM, VT BRIDGES I-91

rockinghamThe Vermont Agency of Transportation in conjunction with the design/build team of Reed & Reed, Inc. will complete bridge replacement on the I-91 bridges #24S & 24N over the Williams River in Rockingham, VT. This project has an anticipated completion date of June 15, 2020.

IT IS ANTICIPATED THAT THE CROSSOVER’S WILL BE OPENED UP TO MOTORISTS BY THE END OF BUSINESS TOMORROW, JULY 21, 2017 ALLOWING FOR ONE LANE OF TRAFFIC NORTHBOUND AND ONE LANE SOUTHBOUND ON THE SOUTHBOUND BRIDGE.

Exit 6 I-91 northbound on-ramp remains temporarily closed with a signed detoured along Route 5 to bring you to the Exit 7 northbound on-ramp.  The ramp is anticipated to be closed until approximately July 28, 2017.


Below is the anticipated construction activities for the week beginning July 24, 2017:

Golden Hill Road activities:

 Monday thru Friday:

  • Continued construction activities under the bridge to gain access to the bridge.
  • Continued steady truck traffic with traffic control present.
  • Continued pile driving for work trestle.

I-91 activities:

Monday thru Friday:

  • Construction continues on the I-91 Exit 6 northbound ramp.
  • Milling the existing pavement on the northbound bridge.
  • Begin saw cutting existing northbound bridge.

 Motorists merging onto I-91 via Exit 6 northbound on ramp need to STOP prior to entering onto I-91 northbound traffic.


Below is the anticipated construction activities for the week beginning July 15, 2017:

Golden Hill Road activities:

 Monday thru Friday:

  • Continued construction activities under the bridge to gain access to the bridge.
  • Continued steady truck traffic with traffic control present.
  • Barrier ropes and signs to be installed to keep boat traffic from accessing the construction zone in the Williams River.

I-91 activities:

Saturday – July 15:

  • Work continues on the crossover.

Monday thru Friday:

  • I-91 EXIT 6 NORTHBOUND ON RAMP WILL BE CLOSED WITH A SIGNED DETOUR
  • Construction continues on the I-91 Exit 6 northbound ramp.
  • Continued median crossover work continues at the northern end.
  • Weather permitting paving the northbound crossover.
  • Continued installation of concrete barriers northbound.

It is “anticipated” that the northbound crossover will be opened to traffic on July 21, 2017.

The posted speed limit within the construction zone will be reduced to 55mph and will be strictly enforced.
