Rockingham Bridges-I91
The Vermont Agency of Transportation in conjunction with the design/build team of Reed & Reed, Inc. will complete bridge replacement on the I-91 bridges #24S & 24N over the Williams River in Rockingham, VT. This project has an anticipated completion date of September 2021.
I-91 NORTHBOUND & SOUTHBOUND ARE REDUCED TO ONE LANE WITHIN THE CONSTRUCTION ZONE.
I-91 NORTHBOUND MOTORISTS SHOULD BE AWARE OF MERGING RAMP TRAFFIC ENTERING THE ROADWAY!

Below is the anticipated work schedule for the week beginning Monday, June 03, 2019:
Monday thru Friday:
- Preparation work for demolition of SB Pier #1.
- Work continues on SB Piers #2 & #3.
- Begin removal of the existing southbound bridge deck
- Installation of the southbound traffic control devises.
TUESDAY:
- 9:30am there will be a rolling roadblock for southbound motorists in preparation of opening the southbound crossover. Motorists can anticipate approximately a 20-minute delay in their travels. If time does not allow for all work to be completed within the 20 minutes, there will be another rolling roadblock at 11:00am for approximately another 20-minute delay.
TUESDAY THRU THURSDAY:
- EXIT 6 SOUTHBOUND OFF-RAMP WILL BE CLOSED AT 9:30am June 4, 2019 until the end of the workday June 6, 2019. Motorists will be detoured using Exit 7 Off-Ramp then follow the signed detour on Route 5 southbound. All trucks over 14’ high will follow a signed detoured using Route 11.

- Work continues on the installation of the southbound crossover to include paving, shoulders & line striping.
- Work continues on SB Piers #2 & #3.
- Prep work on the existing southbound bridge for start of demolition
- Installation of the southbound traffic control devises.

- Begin form work for the 2nd shaft placement on Pier #2.
- Installation of the southbound traffic control devises.

Monday thru Friday:
- Work begins on building the crossover to re-route all traffic onto the NB Bridge
- Work continues on SB Pier #3 to include placement of 2nd shaft
- Prep work for 1st placement of concrete at SB Pier #2
NARROW LANES – USE CAUTION!
Tomorrow, April 26, 2019 @ 6:30a.m.:
- Weather permitting, there will be a I-91 northbound rolling road block for line striping before northbound motorists will be directed onto one lane of the newly constructed bridge. Motorists can anticipate approximately a 25-minute delay in their travels. Southbound traffic will still travel over one lane of the existing southbound bridge until a crossover is built.
- I-91 Exit 6 northbound On-Ramp will be opened up within an hour after the rolling road block clears and traffic is back up to speed over to the new I-91 Northbound Bridge.
Please note: If weather does not permit this to happen then the rain date will be for Monday, April 29, 2019 @ 9:30a.m.
The following is the anticipated work schedule on the I-91 bridges for the week beginning Monday, April 22, 2019:
Monday thru Friday:
- I-91 Exit 6 northbound On-Ramp remains closed for the week during ramp reconstruction to its original grade. All motorists to follow the signed detoured on Route 5 north to the Exit 7 northbound On-Ramp. The ramp is anticipated to be opened up on April 26, 2019 at which time all traffic will be switched over to the new I-91 Northbound Bridge.
- Weather permitting, paving the NB Bridge approaches
- Guardrail installation on the NB Bridge approaches
- Pavement markings on the NB Bridge and approaches
- Installation of new NB traffic control devices
- Work continues on Pier #3 to include placement of 2nd shaft
- Continue to excavate and remove ledge at Pier #2 SB cofferdam
Friday – April 26, 2019:
- Weather permitting, there will be a northbound rolling road block as motorists are directed over the newly constructed northbound bridge. Motorists can anticipate approximately a 10-minute delay in their travels. The start of the road block will be listed in next week’s release.
